Illegal immigration: seven suspected smugglers arrested in Lorraine

Since July 2023, the branch of the central office for combating illicit trafficking of migrants (OLTIM) is investigating an illegal immigration network between Turkey and , Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg. Their investigations led to the arrest of seven people on October 7 and 8, according to the JIRS, the specialized interregional jurisdiction of , which published a press release this Friday.

At the end of police custody, four men have just been indicted, and three of them have been placed in pre-trial detention.

This illegal immigration network is suspected of having allowed the transit, between 2022 and October 2024, of nearly 300 migrants between Turkey and France, Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg. The illegal individuals left Turkey and were taken to Serbia, where they received false papers, then they borrowed vehicles provided by the smugglers to reach the Schengen Area countries.

According to the JIRS of Nancy, the specialized interregional jurisdiction, each migrant paid between 3,500 and 7,000 euros to take advantage of this illegal immigration network.
