Columbus Crew defender Steven Moreira made a surprising statement following his team’s loss to Inter Miami.
On Wednesday October 2, 2024, thanks to a double from Lionel Messi and a goal from Luis Suárez, Inter Miami won a prestigious victory on the lawn of the reigning champion, the Columbus Crew (3-2), thus ensuring first place in MLS at the end of the regular season.
A victory which allowed Inter Miami to win the “supporters’ shield”, the name of the trophy awarded to the team with the best record at the end of the Championship, but before the play-offs which will begin on October 23 .
Questioned after the meeting, Steven Moreira, while acknowledging the disappointment of losing the title, expressed unexpected satisfaction
“We lost the title in that match, it’s true, but I won with a photo with the best player in history.
It made me forget the defeat and the title too.
It’s not easy to play a match with Messi and take a photo with him, and it’s also an honor for me to lose to him.
You can’t win by playing against Messi. He beat the biggest teams and dribbled past the best defenders.
I will be proud of this photo in front of my family and my children.
I feel really happy every time I see this photo”he said.
