Ce Wednesday October 9, 2024 in the morning, Aurélie TrouvéMP for La insoumise, was elected head of the Economic Affairs Committee of the National Assembly.

In the third round, with 27 votes, she was two votes ahead of the Manchese Stéphane Travert (EPR), and the RN deputy Fréderic Falcon (14 votes).

A big surprise

A big surprise, and a hard blow for the Manchois, although designated by his party to be the candidate for a presidency which seemed promised to him. He would have found a chair that he had occupied between February and June, until the dissolution.

Consequence of new government by Michel Barnier, three commissions of the National Assembly designated their new presidents this Wednesday morning.

The opportunity for The Republicans to call into question the distribution of positions negotiated this summer with Renaissance, MoDem and Horizons.

After the second round of the legislative elections, intense negotiations led to an agreement between the forces of the centrist coalition (often with Republican votes), in the wake of the election of Yaël Braun-Pivet. This agreement then stipulated that Economic Affairs must return to an EPR deputy.

Twist

By succeeding Bruno Le Maire at the Ministry of the Economy, Antoine Armand (EPR) left his chair as President of Economic Affairs.

Laurent Wauquiez wanted his share of the pie, both strengthened by the composition of the new government and weakened by the fear of losing a vice-presidency in the Assembly.

The boss of deputies of the republican right had notably made known his keen interest in ensuring that the Republicans regained the presidency of Economic Affairs. At risk in fine of favor the left who left united. On the side of Ensemble pour la République, the refusal to Gabriel Attal however, remained categorical until the end.

Result, an LR candidate, Julien Diveintroduced himself. His withdrawal in the third round was not enough, since the five members of LR chose to abstain.

This Wednesday morning, two votes are missing, and the strategic commission leaves to join the New Popular Front. And the fragile government coalition is taking a big hit.
