Aged 43, Omar Bin Laden lived in Orne with his British partner and had become a painter. He expressed his happiness at living in , far from his father’s terrorist past. However, in 2023, he was the subject of an Obligation to Leave French Territory (OQTF) after being accused of advocating terrorism.

The controversy arose from a tweet posted on May 2, 2023, in which Omar paid tribute to his father, killed in 2011 by American special forces. Although Omar bin Laden distanced himself from his father’s actions and always criticized his crimes, he was indicted for advocating terrorism. He claimed not to be at the origin of the incriminated message. His X account was suspended, and the prefect of Orne issued the OQTF against him.

Thus, Omar Bin Laden was subject to an administrative ban from French territory by the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau.

Omar Bin Laden left France to settle in Qatar and will no longer be able to return to French territory. Justice confirmed the legality of this ban, which Bruno Retailleau justifies by the need to protect national security. This decision marks the end of Omar Bin Laden’s presence in France, despite his efforts to integrate and dissociate himself from his family’s terrorist past.
