A woman was taken into custody on Tuesday then released without prosecution at this stage, as part of an investigation into blackmail against the radio host, himself indicted for rape, the Nanterre prosecutor’s office said on Wednesday. . This police custody was lifted on Wednesday afternoon “for continued investigations”, said the prosecution. According to a source close to the case, this woman had been placed in police custody in the premises of the Brigade for the Repression of Personal Delinquency (BRDP) of the Paris judicial police.
Accused of rape, the former star presenter of NRJ radio has repeatedly claimed to be the victim of cyberharassment, slanderous denunciation and attempted extortion. He filed a complaint, leading to the opening of two preliminary investigations in Nanterre, for which he was heard at the end of 2023. It was within the framework of these investigations that the custody of a woman took place on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“We are delighted that the truth about this case is beginning to emerge and that justice is finally seizing it,” Sébastien Cauet’s lawyers, Mes Xavier Autain, Simon Clémenceau, Jade Dousselin, declared on Tuesday in a press release. Asked on Wednesday, they did not comment on the lifting of police custody.
Allowed to resume radio
Sébastien Cauet, 52, was indicted on May 24 by a Paris investigating judge for rape and sexual assault on four women, including three teenagers, between 1997 and 2014, accusations that he contests. He was first placed under judicial supervision, with a ban on working as a radio host or TV presenter. The defense contested this judicial review, and the courts finally authorized him to resume radio and television activity provided that there was “no audience”.
The affair broke out in November 2023, after a first complaint. Sébastien Cauet is suspected of having raped a 16-year-old girl in November 2014 in Geneva. He is also accused of having raped another young girl, aged 15, in December 1997 in Paris. And of having sexually assaulted a third 17-year-old girl in December 2012. The host is also indicted for rape of an adult, born in October 1973, in 2011 in Paris.
Other women accused him of sexual violence, but these facts, prescribed according to the Paris prosecutor’s office, are not part of the investigations entrusted to the investigating judges.
