Cold cases. Interpol launches a vast call for witnesses to identify 46 deceased women, including one in Lorraine

Interpol launched an international call for witnesses on Tuesday to try to identify 46 women who died in suspicious circumstances over half a century. Their bodies were found in six European countries: in , but also in Spain, Italy, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Seven files concern women found in France. The operation is called “Identify me”.

These women have never been identified. We don’t know who they are or where they come from. They were potentially victims of a crime. And it is in an attempt to resolve these 46 cold cases that Interpol publishes investigative elements on each of these cases on its website, in the hope that someone will recognize these women and that the circumstances of their death will be revealed. elucidated.

A similar operation had already been launched in 2023. It made it possible to collect some 1,500 testimonies and identify a victim: Rita Roberts, a 31-year-old British citizen discovered in Antwerp (Belgium) more than 30 years earlier. Relatives recognized the young woman’s tattoo, representing a flower, in documents posted online by Interpol.

“Look at these women […] could they be your friend, your cousin, your colleague, your patient, your neighbor, who suddenly disappeared? », ask singer Axelle Red or actress Carice van Houten in the video campaign.
“You can help them. Give these women their identity back,” they call in this clip. In France, the athlete Marie-José Pérec and the actress and writer Sarah Biasini are the ambassadors of the campaign.
