Weather: more than 20 degrees this morning between and Lourdes… the calm before the storm Kirk?

the essential
As Storm Kirk approaches the Hautes-Pyrénées, it brings up hot and dry air from the south, which raises the temperature this Wednesday morning. The weather is then expected to deteriorate during the day with strong gusts of wind.

This Wednesday morning, between and Lourdes, many were certainly surprised when they opened the shutters. Outside, from the first light of day, the temperatures are pleasantly high, reaching 25 degrees at 9 a.m. to the west of the Hautes-Pyrénées. A rainbow also came to color the Tarbes sky early this morning.

Temperatures also high in the valleys, such as Saint-Lary or Luz-Saint-Sauveur where the mercury exceeds the 20 degree mark this morning. Blame it on Storm Kirk which is arriving on the French coast today. As such, the Hautes-Pyrénées are on orange alert for “wind”. Temperatures that are also found across almost the entire Pyrénées-Atlantiques department, also on orange alert.

The old cyclone, which approaches from the South-West, brings up hot air from Spain and Africa. This hot and dry southerly wind crosses the Pyrenees and falls into the valleys, this is what we call the Foehn effect. It is this phenomenon which is at the origin of the abnormally mild heat this Wednesday morning.
