Gusts at 110, 120 km/h. Downpours. Floods to fear. Storm Kirk, from the ex-hurricane which formed in the Atlantic 15 days ago, sweeps over France this Wednesday October 9, 2024.
Already many departments are in vigilance Orange and red alerts cannot be excluded, notably Loire-Atlantique and Vendée, where Significant rainfall accumulations are expected. This precipitation should lead to flash floods and probable flooding in a strip stretching from Nantes to the Ardennes, via Île-de-France.
If the wind is expected to be less violent than expected, gusts of 120 km/h should hit the coasts of Aquitaine and the valleys et reach 150 km/h on the crests of the Pyrenees and the Massif Central. Enough to cause some damage.

10 a.m. – Orange vigilance increases to 34 departments
In its 10 a.m. bulletin, Météo France extended orange vigilance to 34 departments. Ain, Isère, Jura and Doubs, affected by violent winds, were added by the weather organization.

7 a.m. – Up to 150 km/h
According to Météo France, the wind should reach 80 km/h in gusts, even 90 in the Rhône valley and the Alps, 100 to 110 km/h on the Aquitaine coast.
To the west of the Pyrenees, gusts reach 100 to 150 km/h on the crests, 110 to 120 km/h in the valleys, up to 100 in the plains. The coastal departments of Manche are spared the heaviest rain but a few showers are circulating under mixed skies.
6 a.m. – 30 departments on orange alert
In its 6 a.m. bulletin, Météo France has already placed 30 departments on orange alert mainly for rain-flooding, but also for the risk of flooding and strong winds, and has not already ruled out strengthening its vigilance. at the red level, facing this rainy event of rare intensity, particularly in the Pays de la Loire.
5:30 a.m. – Up to 100 mm of rain… or more
Ex-hurricane Kirk will bring us significant accumulations in the departments on orange alert: 40 to 60 mm in the Paris basin, 60 to 80 mm, or even locally 90 mm, in the Pays de la Loire and Vendée.
We are therefore expecting, in certain areas, the equivalent of an entire month of rain in 24 hours.
