ATP – Shanghai > Monfils explains his comments before facing Alcaraz: “The truth is sometimes hard to hear, isn’t it? And yes I will come in to win. 1% is enough in sport for an achievement”

Gaël Monfils aroused the questions of many fans and observers during his press conference after his great victory against his compatriot Ugo Humbert in the 3e round of the Shanghai Masters 1000.

Asked about his opponent in the round of 16, Carlos Alcaraz, against whom he won a few weeks ago in Cincinnati, the Frenchman surprised everyone by declaring that he was going to be crushed and that he had 1% chance of winning.

Questioned by the account Tennis Legend on Twitter, the current 46e Mondial clarified its thoughts without denying its words.

“The truth is sometimes hard to hear or read, isn’t it? That’s why I enjoy it even more at the end of my career, because we can really share. And yes I’m going to come in to win (as I said in the full interview, 1% is enough in sport for an achievement). Why suddenly do you say to yourself I’m 50/50 tomorrow? »replied Gaël Monfils who undoubtedly wanted to take some pressure off himself with this statement which caused a lot of reaction.
