the Assembly rejects the motion of censure tabled by the left

The left failed on Tuesday October 8 to bring down the Barnier government, its motion of censure against what it describes as « hold-up électoral » not having obtained an absolute majority in the Assembly, due to lack of support from the National Rally.

It took 289 votes to censure this newly appointed government, the motion tabled by the four groups of the New Popular Front obtained only 197. Barely more than the 192 signatories of the text.

A failure expected by its authors, starting with Olivier Faure, who was the first to take the podium to demand censorship of a government born according to him from a « hold-up électoral » and who would not have “never should have been named”.

But the boss of the socialist party had recognized in advance that Michel Barnier would remain “in control of the country at the end of this session”with the benevolence of an extreme right which “placed under (his) guardianship”.

A « validation complice » of the RN also denounced by the rebellious Clémence Guetté for better hitting the Prime Minister than his government “is therefore illegitimate”.

“It’s mathematical, without the support of the RN your government would be overthrown”insisted the head of environmentalist deputies Cyrielle Chatelain, seeing “the demonstration of a political agreement between Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen”.

The motion of censure rejected by the RN

What the party with the flame obviously defended itself, mocking censorship through the voice of its deputy Guillaume Bigot “sulky” et “capricious” who could not “only lead to chaos”in the absence of another possible dissolution before the summer of 2025.

“Our group is burning to vote for censorship”more “we will only censor actions”added the Belfortain elected official, explaining that his group “prefers for the moment to exert pressure” on the executive “in a logic of lesser evil”.

Before being reassured in his place, the Prime Minister had deplored a motion « a priori » from the left, who sought to censor him “even before (he) opens his mouth and constitutes (his) government”.

Michel Barnier also contested the idea that his government is illegitimate, considering that his “relative majority” was there “less relative” possible at the Palais-Bourbon, fractured since the legislative elections into three blocs, none of which has an absolute majority.

A call for “compromise”

The central bloc logically gave him its support, in particular the strong man of the right Laurent Wauquiez who swore to “do everything to help him succeed”.

In the center, the head of the MoDem group Marc Fesneau castigated the “deeply cynical approach” of censorship « pavlovienne » et “clan”When “the answer lies in our ability to influence by finding parliamentary consensus”.

The socialist Olivier Faure has not completely closed the door, taking the call for ” compromise “ of Michel Barnier by inviting him to “move forward on the basis of (the) amendments” that the socialists will submit on the draft budget for 2025.
