Israel-Hamas war: one year later, Tunisians are still marching for Gaza

Tunisians took to the streets of the capital by the thousands to express their support for the Palestinian and Lebanese people in the conflict between them and Israel.

They were thousands of demonstrators in the streets of the Tunisian capital gathered to affirm their support for Palestinian people. This march was held on the first anniversary of the October 7 attack marking the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

Equipped with flags Tunisians, Palestinians and Lebanesethe demonstrators began their march in Bab El Khadra, before heading towards Avenue Habib Bourguiba, in Tunis. They chanted slogans hostile to Israel and messages of support for the resistance.

For Nour Hamdi, organizer of the event, “It is important that every human being and every Arab citizen can express their discontent. Today, Arab states that prefer to remain silent and do not even let their citizens protest”he protests. A vision shared by most of the demonstrators. Among them, Najia Ajmi, who has a strong opinion on Israel’s objective: “Because they failed against the Palestinian resistance and Hamas, they are destroying Gaza. They kill children because they know very well that these children will grow up, just like those who were children in 1948.”she says.

During the march, demonstrators also launched a appeal to the newly re-elected president, Kais Saied, for the adoption of the “so-called law against standardization”. This aims to apply heavy penalties for natural or legal persons of Tunisian nationality who are in contact or collaboration with Israel.
