Sunday October 6, 2024, Gabriel Attal was invited to the set of the 8 p.m. news on TF1. Rather tense, the president of the Ensemble pour la République group in the National Assembly faced an offensive Anne-Claire Coudray.
A tense interview… Sunday October 6, 2024, Anne-Claire Coudray received the former Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, on the set of the 8 p.m. news. Facing the journalist, the politician recalled having prepared a budget for 2025 which includes 15 billion euros in savings. So, she blurted out: “We are far from 60 billion, where do these 60 billion come from?”.
Not letting himself be disconcerted, Gabriel Attal explained:
“I’m coming to this. This means that in eight months, we have identified or made 40 billion euros in savings. Moreover, the Prime Minister this morning indicated that he recognized that these were efforts substantial achievements that had been made. Now we must continue and amplify the reduction of our deficits.. To which Anne-Claire-Coudray replied: “But on the observation,
Is Michel Barnier right to be surprised? Or is it hypocrisy?“.
Gabriel Attal: “We must continue and amplify this action”
In complete transparency, the president of the Ensemble pour la République group in the National Assembly explained: “I just told you that there was a degraded budgetary situation and that I myself, in the eight months that I was at Matignon, 40 billion euros of savings identified or made which are today at the disposal of the government and the Prime Minister who recognizes this himself. Now, I will tell you, we must continue and amplify this action and the Prime Minister is right to make it a priority and we support him in prioritizing the reduction of deficits”.
Anne-Claire Coudray then asked him if Michel Barnier was asking him for proposals, and what his main ideas were for reducing public spending. “I will tell you very clearly.
Order in our spending, tax justice and work at the heart of everything. So we are making proposals and we will be required to make them in the coming weeks.”he indicated.
Gabriel Attal: “The objective is to reduce deficits”
To conclude, the politician added on the set of the 8 p.m. news: “Today there is agreement on the observation, the objective of reducing deficits. There is a risk that we identify which is to overload the boat on taxes and instead of that, we will instead propose reforms and the valorization of work”.
On X (formerly Twitter), where he shared the sequence,
Gabriel Attal supported his comments made on television.
“We need a budget for France. I will never be the one who complicates Michel Barnier’s life. I know the difficulties of the job. And I will never be one of those who oppose without proposing anything. Another path is possible than massive tax increases on the French : Labor and reforms. On unemployment insurance, on working hours in the public service and on the simplification of the territorial millefeuille”he wrote.
