AS Monaco wins in and puts pressure on PSG

This Saturday evening, AS Monaco faced a perilous trip to . Faced with a Breton team that was always difficult to maneuver on home soil, the Asemists had no room for error to put pressure on PSG and distance themselves from OM. And after a match played in torrential rain against Dinamo Zagreb in the middle of the week (2-2), Monaco wanted to continue their invincibility. To do this, Adi Hütter brought out the heavy artillery and it paid off from the first minutes of play. Much more inspired than their evening hosts, the Monegasques put the pressure on very early on near the Breton area and obtained a corner . Thus, Eliesse Ben Seghir delivered a perfect cross towards the head of Thilo Kehrer, who was quick to adjust Steve Mandanda (0-1, 6th).

Still as threatening, the ASM was nevertheless joined in an innocuous action. Found 30 meters to the right of Philipp Köhn’s goal, Ludovic Blas did not hesitate and delivered a devilishly powerful shot which landed in the top corner of the Monegasque goalkeeper (1-1, 11th). Starting off on a frantic basis, this first period continued to be hectic and it was ultimately Monaco who took control of the match. Found in depth by Eliesse Ben Seghir, Folarin Balogun did not rush and adjusted Mandanda with a clever lob (1-2, 22nd). After this new goal, the pace dropped and Monaco returned to the locker room with a rather logical score advantage.

Rennes lacked creativity to equalize

Returning from the locker room, SRFC showed better intentions to get back into the game. Under the leadership of an active Amine Gouiri who entered the game before the break in place of an injured Albert Gronbaek. While Ben Seghir, in all the good shots this evening, found Mandanda’s bar, Arnaud Kalimuendo hit Kohn’s right post on the following counter-attack (49th). In a meeting where everything could get carried away very quickly, the tempo calmed down slightly and Monaco clearly did not make it easy for the Rennais who were too messy to get back into the game. And even when Rennes found an interval to hurt, Kohn was there to keep an eye on things and maintain the Monegasque lead, as in Truffert’s attempt (58th).

The more the minutes ticked by, the more Rennes’ chances became rare. However, the pressure was indeed put on by the Rennes block near the ASM surface. However, a glaring lack of creativity seriously thwarted the locals’ plans against a well-established club from the Principality. The Rock club, solid as a rock, therefore retained its advantage in the score by displaying its art of conservation and a bit of very useful mischief in the last moments of the match. With this welcome success, Monaco regains first place and puts pressure on PSG before their meeting against this Sunday. New defeat for Rennes which stagnates in tenth place.
