An accident at sea took place off the coast of Saint-Tropez last night, involving a boat with seven people on board. A major emergency device has been deployed since 2:20 a.m. by CROSS MED, while the accident occurred more than 300 meters from the shore. Three people were seriously injured, three others were slightly injured, and one person is still missing.
A complex rescue operation
Emergency services, mobilized in large numbers, immediately launched rescue operations to help the victims. The system put in place includes five ambulances, a nursing vehicle, a team specialized in aquatic rescue and another in underwater rescue. In all, 26 Var firefighters were mobilized, supported by two SNSM launches and a French Navy helicopter.
At 8:00 a.m., the seriously injured were transferred to the hospital centers of Fréjus, Gassin and Draguignan. The lightly injured were treated at the Gassin Health Center. The search to find the missing person, suspended at 6:00 a.m., resumed at 7:30 a.m. at the request of CROSS MED.
Search operations continue
To reinforce the search, a team of five light autonomous divers was sent by the firefighters to join the operations. These specialized divers participate in underwater excavations from an SNSM boat. Despite the mobilization of rescue teams, the missing person remains untraceable at this stage. Efforts continue in the hope of finding this person as quickly as possible.
An impressive deployment of resources
The emergency system put in place reflects the scale of the accident. The sea conditions at the time of the incident have not yet been communicated, but coordination between the different services remains essential to carry out search operations. CROSS MED, in charge of supervising the rescue, continues to manage the teams on site to optimize efforts and find the missing person.
