Winner in (2-1), Monaco temporarily takes the lead in Ligue 1

A success will be enough for the Parisians to regain pole. Kehrer and Balogun scored the Monegasque goals against the Bretons.

Monaco still hasn’t bitten the dust this season after nine games. Adi Hütter’s players, three days after their narrow draw in the Champions League in Zagreb (2-2), beat this Saturday evening at Roazhon Park (2-1). A success which sent them to the top of Ligue 1 before the match at this Sunday (8:45 p.m.).

At kick-off, they returned to the 3-4-3 often aligned last season and which ASM had not yet used this season. Hütter chose to concoct a rearguard with Singo-Kehrer-Mawissa in the center and Vanderson and Ouattara playing the pistons.

The Principality club quickly scored on a corner hit by Ben Seghir and headed by Kehrer. Matusiwa cleared the ball on his line but only propelled it into the back of the net (0-1, 6′).

Balogun scores and gets injured

Unfortunately, in the process, Zakaria lost the ball twice in a few seconds. After his second loss of possession, Blas armed a missile from 30 meters and surprised Köhn (1-1, 12′).

But the Monegasques continued to put pressure on the Bretons and hold the ball. On a vertical and sharp pass from Ben Seghir, Balogun deceived Mandanda with a perfect dive ball (1-2, 23′). The American international striker scored his third goal in his last three L1 matches.

Ben Seghir, as restless as ever, found the bar as soon as he returned from the locker room (48′), like Rennais Kalimuendo, who hit the post in the continuity of the action, well launched from deep (48′).

The Red and Whites resisted the SRFC attacks and Köhn diverted Truffert’s curled shot (58′).

Scorer in the first half, Balogun was injured just after this opportunity. The former Rémois was hit in the shoulder after a bad fall. He gave way to Ilenikhena (64′).

The Monegasques then managed their lead. They were jostled by Julien Stéphan’s players, but Hütter made several timely changes to regenerate his collective with the entries of Golovin, Diatta, Magassa and Salisu.

After this meeting, Monaco won 8 of its 10 away matches in Ligue 1 in 2024 (1 draw, 1 defeat), only PSG (10/12) did better over the period.
