The players of FC Lorient and EA Guingamp showed a completely different face this Saturday, October 5, 2024, during the 8th day of Ligue 2.

For their part, the ambitious Merlus and their solid defense took to the pitch at the Ornano stadium in Caen. And Olivier Pantaloni’s men were quick to leave with the three points of victory.

This success, the Merlus went to seek it because it was the Caennais who were the first to shake the nets. Well launched by Brahim Traoré, Tidiam Gomis deceived Lorient goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo (1-0, 18th) with his right foot, who could only touch the ball.

It took a little more than 15 minutes for the Bretons to react: with a cross shot, Eli Junior Kroupi scored from an inside post to equalize (1-1, 35th) and confirmed his current good form. The Merlus striker signs his third achievement of the week.

The last goal of the match came from a big error by the Caen defense. On a ball stored behind, Traoré (SM Caen) was too slow to play the ball. However, in the middle of four Normans, Mohamed Bamba took advantage of the situation, pushed the ball with his foot into the depths and went to face Mandrea face-to-face. The striker sent the ball into the goal to give Lorient the final victory.

Thanks to these three points taken, the team coached by Pantaloni climbs to second place in the Ligue 2 standings.

The EAG players returned from their trip to Clermont with a bag of goals and a heavy 4-1 defeat.

Accustomed to scoring a lot this season (15 goals scored in 7 matches before the trip to Clermont), the Guingampais signed their worst result of the season this Saturday, in particular thanks to a striking lack of realism and a difficulty in starting the match well.

The Auvergnats only needed a quarter of an hour to have a two-goal lead, thanks to Yohann Magnin (9e) and Ousmane Diop (15e).

Despite clear chances in their favor, it was again in the first 15 minutes after returning from the locker room that the Costarmoricans broke down, taking two goals from Diedhiou in quick succession (3-0, 53e) and Diop (4-0, 56e).

From a corner, Sagna scored with a header (4-1, 88e) to save honor. But it was far too late to hope for an outcome other than defeat for the EAG: 4-1 final score. The inefficiency of the Bretons (23 shots to 9) and the accuracy of the Auvergne counterattacks made the difference in this nightmare match for the Guingampais.

Sylvain Ripoll, EAG coach, and his players will have to react from the next match (against , October 18) to hope to remain in the first part of the Ligue 2 ranking.
