Dortmund lose to Union Berlin

Borussia Dortmund is stagnating in the German Bundesliga. There was a 2-1 defeat at Union Berlin on Saturday. Meanwhile, Leverkusen and Kiel drew 2-2.

Four days after the 7-1 Champions League victory against Celtic Glasgow, Borussia Dortmund suffered a defeat in the German Bundesliga. BVB lost 2-1 against Union Berlin on Saturday and only has ten points after six days. Bayer Leverkusen have one more point after a disappointing 2-2 home win against Holstein Kiel. Wolfsburg won 3-1 at Bochum, Bremen lost 0-1 at home against Freiburg.

Dortmund trailed Berlin thanks to a penalty from Kevin Vogt (26th), Yorbe Vertessen increased the lead to 2-0 shortly before half-time. After the break, the black-yellow team improved, but they failed to score more than Julian Ryerson’s goal (62nd). Christopher Trimmel played for the winner, Leopold Querfeld was replaced in the 60th minute. Marcel Sabitzer entered the field for the visitors in the 76th minute.

Leverkusen lost a 2-0 lead

Benedikt Pichler was able to help newly promoted Holstein Kiel steal a point from Leverkusen in the 46th minute. The reigning champions initially clearly dominated the match and seemed to be the assured winners after goals from Victor Boniface (4th) and Jonas Hofmann (8th). But then the slippery slope slipped, Kiel became more dangerous and managed to equalize thanks to Mark Geschwill (45th+5) and Fiete Arp (69th/penalty). Bayer’s final offensive proved ineffective.

Friedl of Bremen, tragic character

Marco Friedl was the tragic figure in Werder’s home defeat against Freiburg. The ÖFB returnee deflected a relatively harmless shot from Ritsu Doan into his own goal (75th). Friedl and Schmid played, Marco Grüll came on in the 79th minute. On the other side, Junior Adamu and Philipp Lienhart were in action over the entire distance, while Michael Gregoritsch sat on the bench.

Patrick Wimmer has received at least some match training ahead of the upcoming Nations League matches. The former Austrian was introduced into the match by coach Ralph Hasenhüttl in the 73rd minute of VfL Wolfsburg’s 3-1 victory in Bochum. (APA)
