“Paul Pogba was a great player, he hasn’t played for a long time”, will “La Pioche” resume his career at Juventus Turin?

French international midfielder Paul Pogba saw his suspension for doping reduced to eighteen months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Will the 2018 world champion be able to resume his career in March 2025 at Juventus Turin?

Will Paul Pogba resume his career at Juventus Turin? The statements of Juve coach Thiago Motta on Saturday October 5, the day after his suspension for doping was reduced to eighteen months, seem to indicate that the Piedmont club is not planning its future with the 2018 world champion.

Under contract with Juve until 2026

“The club will assess the situation and make a decision if necessary. As far as I am concerned, Paul Pogba was a great player, he hasn’t played for a long time,” Motta said at a press conference on the eve of the match of the 7th day against Cagliari.

“Me, I am focused on our match tomorrow (Sunday), everything else does not matter much to me,” he added.

Pogba, 31, is under contract with Juve until 2026 and can theoretically play again in the Bianconero jersey from March 2025.

Initial suspension of four years

Contacted by AFP, Juventus Turin did not wish to comment on the situation of its midfielder, suspended since September 2023 after testing positive for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA).

Pogba initially received a four-year suspension, a sanction reduced to eighteen months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) seized by the French international.

The international midfielder of the Blues reacted a few minutes after the announcement was made official by publishing on his social networks a photo of his crampons, ready to be put on again.

The CAS therefore took into account the explanations of Pogba and his entourage who had put forward the thesis of accidental contamination via a food supplement prescribed by a doctor consulted in the United States.

Last match of “La Pioche”, September 3, 2023

“La Pioche” made his last appearance on a football field on September 3, 2023 for an Italian Championship match against Empoli.

The previous season, that of his return to Juventus after a long spell at Manchester United (2016-22), he had only played ten matches in all competitions due to a knee injury which had deprived him of the World-2022.

In his absence, Juve finished 3rd in the Italian Championship last season. Coached by Motta since this summer, Juve got off to an excellent start (2nd in Serie A) thanks in particular to a midfield reinforced by the summer arrivals of Khéphren Thuram, Teun Koopmeiners and Douglas Luiz.
