More than 50 years after the establishment of diplomatic relations and 10 years of strategic partnership, Franco-Vietnamese ties have experienced both quantitative and qualitative advances, and are experiencing new developments both in breadth and depth in all areas.

Tô Lâm’s visit to France, from October 4 to 7, combines both multilateral activities, with participation in the XIXe Francophonie Summit, and bilateral activities, including an official visit to France.

This visit will convey a strong message about a Vietnam which persists in its foreign policy of independence, autonomy, multilateralization, diversification, with emphasis on the consolidation and deepening of its relations with the great powers, its important partners and traditional friends, including France, the European Union (EU) and Europe, while affirming Vietnam’s importance and commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation.

The official visit of the Secretary General and President Tô Lâm to France will not only contribute to strengthening political trust between the leaders of the two countries and to consolidate the traditional friendly relations between the two peoples, but also to create a framework and open a new phase to take the Vietnam – France strategic partnership to a new height, for the benefit of both peoples.

Currently, the two countries have many favorable conditions to strengthen their relations, said Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang.

The two countries appreciate each other’s partner role in relations between the two continents, the two regions and between ASEAN and the EU, sharing many common interests on promoting peace, stability, cooperation , as well as common values such as multilateralism, respect for international law and support for the United Nations Charter.

During recent meetings, the leaders of the two countries affirmed their common perception of a new vision for the Vietnam – France strategic partnership, based on the pillars of cooperation that have been established and which continue to be renewed and strengthened.

In the context of complex developments in the global economy and geopolitical instability, both sides should strengthen their dynamism in diplomacy and integration, and work together to develop appropriate adaptation strategies, so as to share the benefits and to serve everyone’s foreign policy and development objectives, said Ambassador Dinh Toàn Thang.

Agencies, ministries, departments and partners of both parties must strive to quickly propose measures in order to define concrete directions in their respective fields, responding to the new, increasingly pressing and diversified requirements of each.

Vietnam and France have many opportunities to elevate their bilateral cooperation both in quantity and quality. The strong political determination of their leaders, the solid support of different layers of their population, as well as the active participation of partners in all areas will create new dynamics to deepen cooperative relations.

According to the diplomat, Vietnam and France must coordinate in a more effective and comprehensive manner, ranging from cooperation in the economy, security-defense, trade and investment, to science and technology, education and training, including innovation, digital transformation, green transition, culture and exchanges between peoples.

He expressed confidence that with the cooperation frameworks and new dynamics that the leaders of the two countries will establish during the official visit of Secretary General and President Tô Lâm, the two countries will have conditions and opportunities to deepen their cooperation in all areas and on all channels.
