when a Quebec newspaper places the Château de Villers-Cotterêts in

Villers-Cotterêts and the Cité internationale de la langue française are at the heart of the Francophonie these days. The town of Aisne and its castle have been hosting the Francophonie Summit since this Friday. Heads of state from around the world are invited, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The Journal du Québec thus devoted an article to the Cité de la langue française entitled: “Quebec injected 2 million dollars into this castle in . » If the Château de Villers-Cotterêts is known by all students in as the place where Francis I signed an ordinance which made French the official language of the kingdom, it did not experience a fate like Abu Simbel. The king’s former hunting lodge was located in Aisne at the time and still remains there.

But again, Villers-Cotterêts is located nearly 80 kilometers from the center of the capital and at least 1 hour 10 minutes by car. From the perspective of the second largest country in the world, this distance may not be the same as on this side of the Atlantic. We will give our Quebec friends the benefit of the doubt.
