“Finally, the nightmare is over”: Paul Pogba’s first words after his suspension was reduced

Paul Pogba will finally be able to calmly consider his return to the football fields, and this is rare good news after two years of an endless sporting and personal ordeal for the French international. This Thursday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport pronounced, on appeal, the reduction of his suspension for doping, pronounced last February, from 4 years to 18 months, which means that he will be able to play in official competition again from March 2025.

“Finally, the nightmare is over,” he wrote in a press release, shared this Thursday evening through the agency that manages his communications. “Following the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, I can now look forward to the day when I can pursue my dreams again. »

“I can’t wait to get back on the pitch”

Testing positive for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) in September 2023 and suspended since then, he explains that he “always maintained that I had never knowingly violated WADA regulations when I took a nutritional supplement that had been prescribed to me by a doctor, and which does not affect or improve the performance of male athletes.”

“I play with integrity, and although I must accept that this is a strict liability offense, I would like to thank the CAS judges who listened to my explanations,” he wrote again. This time has been extremely trying for me, as everything I have worked so hard for has been put on hold. Thanks again for all the love and support. I can’t wait to get back on the field. »

After a year 2022 marked by long injuries and an incredible extra-sporting affair, Paul Pogba already thought he would see the end of the tunnel at the start of the 2023-2024 season before this suspension once again thwarted his return plans. He should be able to return to training with his club, Juventus, from January 2025, and will be authorized to play again in March.
