Malick Fofana definitely escapes Guinea

Belgium killed Guinea’s last hope of registering a nice surprise at the start of the Ligue 1 season.

The coach of the Belgium team, Domenico Tedesco, announced this Friday the list of the Red Devils selected for the next two Nations League matches. One of the main surprises is Malick Fofana, 19, who began his first full season with OL after a second part of the 2023-24 season on the banks of the Rhône, and his arrival in
Ligue 1 from La Gantoise last January.

The new Belgian international is rewarded for his good start to 2024-2025 with the Rhone club. Despite a substitute status, the pocket winger (1.69m) has managed to do well so far. In 8 appearances for 3 starts, he has indeed scored 3 goals and delivered 2 offerings. Thursday evening in the Europa League, he almost single-handedly carried Les Gones to a big 1-4 victory at Glasgow Rangers, scoring a brace and an assist.

Guinea had a tiny hope

The native of Aalst thus discovers the Red-Yellow-Black A team after passing through all the youth categories, from the U15s to the Espoirs where he remains on a ninth cap on September 10 against Kazakhstan. He was also eligible with
Guinea where his parents are from. This affiliation justified Syli National’s interest in the versatile attacker and constituted the only hope of beating the Belgians to the post. If he were to play the next two matches with Amadou Onana and companies, he would definitely bury the dream of seeing him wear the Guinean jersey.
