The first part had clearly shown, in a good way, that there was not much more to add or bring to this story, and if this episode can be interpreted indifferently as a sequel or a parallel narrative, it uses little of things the same recipe, and ultimately looks too much like the previous one.
It will therefore once again be a question of penance and justice, if not of morality and solidarity, without much finesse.
After a clever presentation of the characters, the dark atmosphere of the hole (Hoyo) returns, psychologically and physically violent, to the point of sadism.
This dark atmosphere will also be generous in hemoglobin and accompanied by certain fantasies, nudity, singing and names of birds in French (…), legend of the Master of the place, graphic art, mathematics, not very explicit flashbacks, and to be in keeping with the times, representation of minorities.
The distribution of roles is successful, the performers visibly believe in it.
No extravagance regarding the dialogues.
The simplicity of the costumes and sets (partly at the Bilbao Exhibition Center) goes without saying.
The soundtrack is adapted to the situations, from Trip Hop to Ambient for sadness and nostalgia, to Classical music welcome for a very short moment of joy and dance.
The color filters (blue, red and green) complete this intention to differentiate the atmospheres.
The way the clashes are filmed reproduces the violence well, in a deliberately messy and framed way, generally very closely.
If until its last part it is only a vague copy of the 2019 footage and sometimes goes a little in circles, Hole 2 differs from it all the same with an improbable and more or less clever conclusion of psychedelia, parables and ghost stories, otherwise with a more coherent story, and a fairly clear ending which this time does not necessarily call for immediately.
