Paul Watson locked up until October 23

Environmental activist opposed to whale hunting, Paul Watson, will remain in detention in Greenland until October 23, a Danish court has ruled. It will then be decided whether he is released or extradited to Japan.

Japan is demanding the extradition of Paul Watson so that he can be tried for having attempted, in 2010, with his boat, to prevent a Japanese ship from hunting whales by a maneuver considered dangerous. He would have wanted to board the ship and apprehend the captain… Paul Watson, citizen of Canada, founder of the Sea Shepherd organization, was arrested on July 21 in Nuuk (autonomous territory of Greenland, under Danish sovereignty).

“If they send me to prison in Japan…”

This is the third postponement of the decision, note The Parisian. The international arrest warrant dates from 2012. Paul Watson risks 15 years in prison in Japan, specifies FranceInfo. The environmental activist, aged 73, was able to explain in detail the alleged facts to a team of Televisions. He states in this interview: “If they send me to prison in Japan, I will die there.
