The next captain of the Blues becomes clearer

With the withdrawal of Kylian Mbappé and the international retirement of Antoine Griezmann, Didier Deschamps would have decided for the captain’s armband for the Blues’ next two matches.

Invited in front of the press this Thursday at the start of the afternoon, Didier Deschamps revealed his list of players selected to face Israel and Belgium, on October 10 and 14, in the Nations League. A list in which Kylian Mbappé, spared after a thigh problem, and of course Antoine Griezmann, who announced his international retirement on Monday, does not appear.

The French team is thus deprived of its captain and his substitute for this gathering in October. Didier Deschamps will therefore have to find a new captain for this upcoming international window, but also a vice-captain who will succeed “Grizou”.

Deschamps: “With the absence of Kylian and Antoine in this list, that leaves room”

According to the indiscretions of RMC Sport, it is Mike
Maignan
who is expected to recover the armband. A natural leader, the 29-year-old AC Milan goalkeeper has gained more and more depth within the French locker room. It’s not so surprising that Didier Deschamps makes it his favorite.

At a press conference this Thursday, “DD” remained evasive on the question of captaincy. “On the captaincy, I will talk about it to the players who may be concerned first,” said the coach, before adding: “ With the absence of Kylian and Antoine from this list, that leaves room. It doesn’t happen by snapping your fingers. I have a much younger group, with quality but who will need to confirm and assert themselves. »
