Monaco snatches a point in the Zagreb pool

Trailing 2-0 in Zagreb, AS Monaco finally managed to come back to the score (2-2) in extreme playing conditions. A good point taken in Croatia.

After beating FC Barcelona in its first match in the Champions League, AS Monaco traveled to Croatia this Wednesday to face Dinamo Zagreb this Wednesday. And the least we can say is that the Principality’s players had difficulty shining on a pitch at the limit of the passable due to the downpours of rain which fell before and throughout the match. Facing the locals, the Monegasques resisted during a fairly average first period, but on a counterattack, however slowed down by puddles, Zagreb opened the scoring just before the break through Sucic (1-0, 45th+3).

In these extreme playing conditions, AS Monaco had difficulty expressing themselves, and would take a second goal through Baturina (2-0, 66th). We thought that the Principality club’s chances were over, but after a botched exit from the Croatian goalkeeper, Salisu reduced the score and revived Monaco’s hopes (2-1, 74th). And it was going to pay off, since on a penalty in the last minute of play, Zakaria equalized (2-2, 90th). ASM’s pressure intensified, but Dinamo Zagreb held on. This draw allows Hutter’s team to bring back a precious point from this very wet trip and to be in twelfth place in the standings after two matches.
