Matthew Rosenberg is responsible for telling us about the Joker’s return to Gotham, after the last events read in the series Joker Infinite. And so, this return of the Clown Prince of Crime is going to be violent, obviously, but it turns out that there are two Jokers and that one of them is an imposter. How is this possible? Who is the fake Joker and where does he come from? The screenwriter will take us into a gripping and violent story where we will follow the research of these two Jokers, how they reform a gang while waiting for the final outcome.
We will come across a few members of the Bat-Family like Batgirl, Ravager and Red Hood, even if the latter are not really in favor with the Batman. Rosenberg also entertains us with the sidekicks of the Joker(s). This Mr. Waffle is still mysterious, given the way he comes back to life after being killed. The suspense works well until the end. Indeed, the screenwriter has managed to captivate us and we need to know who the real Joker is and where this second Joker comes from. The final explanation holds up well.
Carmine Di Giandomenico adds his talent to this story. He takes particular care with the rhythm in these pages. It’s a festival of violence and action that he also serves us with chases, fights, gunfights, in short, not a moment’s respite for the reader.
Francisco Francavilla brings his unique and recognizable style to Back-Ups, where Rosenberg has fun with the Joker character by putting him in unexpected situations. Just like Will Robson and Stefano Raffaele, who complete the list of artists on these pages.
Joker: the man who stopped laughingis a good story, a good surprise. The reader gets what he pays for. And, in the end, will you know who the Joker really is?
