A year ago, no one expected Brest with such an exhibition. However, since the start of the season, the Breton club has been enjoying the Champions League. Winners of the first match in their history in C1 two weeks ago against Sturm Graz (1-2), the Ty-Zefs have launched their European adventure perfectly. This Tuesday at the end of the afternoon, the people of Brest had the dream of pursuing this beautiful dream. To achieve this, they had to beat another Austrian team, RB Salzburg. Renowned for its young and talented squad, the Austrian team wanted to redeem itself after its heavy inaugural defeat two weeks ago against Sparta Prague (3-0).

With this revanchist state of mind, the satellite club RB Leipzig hit the ground running. Obtaining the best entry opportunities, the Austrians came up against a great Marco Bizot (9th). And even when Julien Le Cardinal thought he had scored against his side (10th), the VAR finally canceled the goal following an offside by Samson Baidoo. And while Amar Dedic (16th) and Karim Konaté (19th) were close to opening the scoring, it was ultimately Brest who achieved it against the run of play. Served on a superb outside foot from Ludovic Ajorque, Abdallah Sima opened the scoring after an effective sequence (0-1, 23rd). Dominated, Eric Roy’s flock held firm. And despite the dangerous attempts of Gloukh (37th) and Mads Bidstrup (41st), the SB29 returned to the locker room with a score advantage which was surely emulated in Brittany.

The entry of Mama Baldé shattered Salzburg
Returning from the locker room, the Brestois were not content to maintain their advantage in the score. Better still, they sought to take off and showed better offensive inclinations. After containing the first Austrian waves (56th, 58th), the Bretons then rushed towards the attack and their desire bore fruit. In this sense, the entry of an incisive Mama Baldé made the difference. After a dangerous overflow from the former Lyonnais, Mahdi Camara took advantage of Leandro-Noel Morgalla’s poor clearance to double the lead with a nice shot from the right (2-0, 66th). Having gained the upper hand over their opponents, Brest continued to accelerate. On a distant attempt from Hugo Magnetti, Abdallah Sima smelled the right move to score the double by following the failed intervention of Janis Blaswich (0-3, 71st).

We could believe that Brest would unconsciously slow down. But obviously, the Bretons had a huge appetite this Tuesday. And once again, the detonation came from Mama Baldé. Impactful, the Bissaoguinean striker provoked before serving Mathias Pereira Lage at the edge of the area. The former SCO player was quick to adjust Blaswich with a superb shot from the right (0-4, 76th). Facing the groggy Austrians, Brest had a quiet end to the match and therefore enjoyed a festival to temporarily settle in first place in the standings for the regular phase of the Champions League. This new status will now have to be confirmed on October 23 (6:45 p.m.) against Bayer Leverkusen.
