Ile-de-: on the occasion of Pink October, Véligo takes on colors

Their “IDFM blue” coating has been replaced by pink paint which makes them unrecognizable. But these are Véligos – the long-term rental electric bikes chartered by Ile-de- Mobilités – that we are talking about. Around ten volunteers from the support association for women with cancer “Casiopeea, sport to conquer” will use them free of charge for their travel over the next 6 months. The two-wheelers were handed over to the beneficiaries, by Valérie Pécresse, president of IDFM, this Tuesday morning in the premises of the Institut Curie, partner of the operation, on the occasion of the launch of Pink October, the month dedicated to raise awareness of the fight against breast cancer.

Beyond the symbolic aspect of this loan “intended to recall the region’s support for the Institut Curie”, the provision of two-wheelers to Casiopeea owes nothing to chance. The association founded in 2015 by Nathalie David, who overcame breast cancer, has placed the promotion of physical activity before, during and after treatment as a healing factor at the heart of its activity. “Cycling plays a big part in our actions,” recalls the founder of the association, citing in particular Casiopeea’s “get back in the saddle” program which allows women suffering from illness to resume an adapted sporting activity. First on an exercise bike (with the help of a video coach) then during “pink bike” hikes on the roads. The next one is already scheduled for Sunday October 27.

“This dimension of support for women suffering from illness is essential”, indicated for his part Professor Alain Puisieux, president of the board of directors of the Institut Curie, thanking the Region and IDFM for their support. Throughout the month of October, Véligo-location will donate €1 per new subscription to the service to the Casiopeea association. Equipped with 20,000 “classic” electrically assisted bicycles (VAE) and now a thousand special bikes (cargo or extended bikes), Véligo was designed to allow users to test VAEs, by renting those from IDFM for a period of 6 to 9 months maximum, before possibly purchasing their own two-wheeler. Launched in 2019, the service should very soon cross the mark of 110,000 cumulative subscribers.
