Demonstration of October 1: weak mobilization in “so that austerity changes sides”

There were around 250 people marching on the boulevards of the Aude prefecture, this Tuesday at the end of the morning, at the call of the FSU, Solidaires and the CGT, while Prime Minister Michel Barnier will deliver his general policy speech this afternoon. -noon.

At the start of the procession, the Jacobins portal, the local representatives of the three trade union centers who called for demonstrations this Tuesday 1is October at the end of the morning, put this day of mobilization in context. “It had been fixed this 1is October because there should have been a debate on the budget in the National Assembly”indicated Sophie Trochet, the departmental secretary of the CGT. But the parliamentary calendar was disrupted by the political crisis resulting from the dissolution of the national assembly. And in the end, it is the general policy speech of the new Prime Minister, Michel Barnier, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, which clashes with these protest rallies which were not followed by all the trade union organizations (FO, the CFDT and Unsa in particular). The demands are aimed at the repeal of the pension reform, the increase in salaries and pensions and a better redistribution of wealth in anticipation of the next budgetary guidelines. “Let austerity change sides” launched Sophie Trochet. For Patrick Borde, departmental co-secretary of the FSU, this “mobilization is essential, we must say stop the smoke”. “The Macronists have weakened public services. For them it is a burden. But public services allow us to escape from commercial logic.” And to see that “liberal policy creates social despair which breeds the far right”. The CGT departmental secretary calls on RN voters to “do not be mistaken in anger”. “The RN is not a party like the others. It makes people believe that it supports workers but it never votes for laws in their favor.”

“Reactionary and arbitrary government under the thumb of the extreme right”was indignant for his part, Franck Hasselauer of Solidaires. “And all this for base political calculations. We are being imposed a policy of the worst which will lead us to fascism”he is alarmed. While everyone lashed out “the maneuvers of President Macron, who came through in force, even though he was severely beaten at the polls”.
