Pensions, salaries: the first demonstrations took place on Tuesday in several cities at the call of the CGT, the FSU and Solidaires, joined by youth organizations which blocked several high schools, a few hours before the highly anticipated general policy speech of the Prime Minister. Demonstrators began to take to the streets in Rouen, chanting: “Young people in hardship, old people in poverty, we don’t want this society!”

Nearly 200 people are currently gathered on Place Soult in Castres (Tarn) this Tuesday, October 1 to demand the repeal of the pension reform and an increase in wages. They are preparing to parade in the city center.

“A first step”

The CGT lists 185 gatherings. For comparison, the union had more than 200 on May 1 and 250 during the last day of mobilization against pension reform in June 2023. CGT and Sud Rail (Solidaires) are calling on the railway workers to strike, but the SNCF announced on Sunday “normal” traffic for TGVs and slight disruptions for certain regional and Intercity trains.
