New Champions League, same fiasco for PSG

Semi-finalist last season, PSG is automatically one of the favorites for this new edition of the Champions League. An observation which, however, is not shared by everyone.

For Luis Enrique’s first season, Saint-Germain had a remarkable run in the Champions League in 2023-2024. The capital club reached the last four. Eliminated at the gates of the final against Borussia Dortmund, will PSG take advantage of the new big-eared cup formula to do better this season? This will not be easy, especially since Kylian Mbappé has packed his bags, without really being replaced, except by Désiré Doué. Winner of Girona in the first match, Bradley Barcola’s teammates challenge Arsenal this Tuesday.

And whatever the result of this meeting, we can legitimately think that Paris will appear at least in the top 24 and will therefore at least reach the play-offs. But from there to winning the Champions League, there is a step that Kevin Mirallas does not want to take, former LOSC or Everton player and now consultant for RTL Belgium. “PSG are an outsider in my opinion. They’re going to have a great campaign for sure, but I don’t see them going all the way. There is a lot of competition. They were better armed with Mbappé, who is an extraordinary player. There is better balance in the team without him, but the loss of this offensive cartridge is invaluable” believes Kevin Mirallas, who took the opportunity to give his prediction for this Tuesday evening’s match between PSG and Arsenal.

Kevin Mirallas doesn’t see PSG going far

And the former Belgian international sees nothing other than a victory for the Gunners at the Emirates. “At home, Arsenal are probably the favorites. I also find them in better shape than PSG” estimates the consultant, who therefore does not see PSG that strong this season, despite an almost perfect start to the championship with five victories and a draw in Ligue 1. Without a doubt, the match against Arsenal this Tuesday will be rich in lessons on the real level of Paris SG even if the result will not bode well. As a reminder last year, Luis Enrique’s team fell away in the group stage, which did not prevent them from reaching the semi-final stage.
