The public came in large numbers since there were almost no free seats, except upstairs. Florence Bassanini, president of La Cantoria, began with a short speech in which she thanked their partners, as well as the City of Mâcon, highlighting among others the presence of Hervé Reynaud, deputy in charge of culture.
The baroque opera Actéon by Marc-Antoine Charpentier is presented in six scenes based on mythology.
La Cantoria, choir of Mâcon, presented this work accompanied by soloists Emmanuelle Guillier and Philippe Noncle. As for the musicians, there were two violinists, a harpsichordist, a cellist, a double bassist and a percussionist. All were directed by choir director Clément Mépas.
For about an hour, the spectators were able to attend the entire Actaeon in six scenes, which, hearing the numerous applause at the end of this opera, filled them.
To finish, they all took up “Que d’ thick battalions, on our dreams descend” from Médée, again by Marc-Antoine Charpentier twice. For this lyrical tragedy which lasts three hours, only the passage at the end of act 1 was retained to continue the moment of pleasure and sharing.
You will be able to find La Cantoria during the Symphonies d’Automne in Mâcon next November.
