Atlético condemns and denounces the throwing of projectiles by its supporters against Real Madrid

Atlético de Madrid denounced the throwing of projectiles which caused the interruption of the derby against Real in a press release. Same speech for Diego Simeone who also calls for sanctions for certain players.

“Atlético de Madrid wishes to express its rejection of the throwing of objects that took place from a section of the South Stand in the 68th minute of the match against Real Madrid.”. The press release was expected after the disturbances during the boiling Madrid derby this Sunday and was published overnight from Sunday to Monday by Atlético de Madrid. In the 68th minute, just after Real Madrid opened the scoring through Brazilian Militao, projectiles were thrown onto the pitch. Objects including lighters of which Thibaut Courtois was the target. In view of the situation, the referee of the match Mateo Busquets Ferrer interrupted the match for around ten minutes to calm things down.

“The club’s security department has been working with the police to trace those involved, one of whom has already been identified. These attitudes have no place in football and tarnish the image of a stadium which had a spectacular atmosphere with more than 70,000 spectators in the stands, the vast majority of whom demonstrated exemplary behavior. adds the club.

Behavior also denounced by Colchoneros tactician Diego Simeone: “The people who committed incidents should be sanctioned, they harm the image of the club,” he declared on DAZN. The Argentinian also pointed out the behavior of the actors on the pitch and in particular the Real goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, guilty of having, according to him, stoked tensions by upsetting the public, after Eder Militao’s goal. “He who throws a lighter must be punished but he who provokes must be sanctioned too”he insists. On the 8th day, Atlético Madrid is 3rd, two points behind Real and five behind Barça.
