the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns

The Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs expressed its indignation at the attack suffered by Senegalese MP and member of the ECOWAS Parliament, Guy Marius Sagna, on Saturday September 29, 2024 in Lomé, Togo. The latter was there to attend the third extraordinary session of the ECOWAS Parliament Commission.

On the sidelines of this session, the MP participated in a meeting organized by Togolese citizens, who are also his “constituents”. According to his statements, the attack, described as “brutal” by the ministry, occurred at the start of this meeting, perpetrated by individuals presented as thugs.

The Ministry strongly condemned this “unspeakable act” and sent its wishes for a speedy recovery to the Honorable Guy Marius Sagna. In reaction to the incident, the Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs contacted her Togolese counterpart, after speaking by telephone with the MP to inquire about his state of health.

In this context, she requested guarantees so that the physical integrity of her compatriot is protected. The Ministry also welcomed the “commitment” of the Togolese minister, who assured that all necessary measures would be taken to guarantee the security of the Senegalese MP.
