“It lacked respect and class”, a small settling of scores after -UBB

Yannick Bru, manager of Union -Bègles, confides that the big victory won in (16-12) on Sunday had a little taste of revenge after

Bordeaux-Bègles manager Yannick Bru responded Sunday after his team’s victory in Toulouse (16-12) at the end of the fourth day of Top 14 to the “little phrase” of Toulouse back coach Clément Poitrenaud on the Girondin “Galactics”.

“That really upsets us”

“It’s a new energy, new objectives, a new workforce,” he underlined in the preamble. “We also have the desire to climb the stairs. We had prepared for that, with a lot of humility. I know Clément well, he is a humble and hard-working person, I was very surprised by the little sentence that he dropped on us, I think it lacked respect and class. It doesn’t sound like Clément, and obviously, that upsets us a little.

Poitrenaud, former teammate of Bru at Stade Toulousain, launched a dig on Friday about the nickname “Galactics” sometimes given to the UBB attack line, notably led by internationals Matthieu Jalibert, Damian Penaud and Louis Bielle-Biarrey . “The Galactics are the ones who win the matches that count,” said Ugo Mola’s assistant three months after Toulouse’s great success against Bordeaux-Bègles in the final (59-3).

After the Bordeaux success on Sunday, Yannick Bru took care not to get carried away. “I know that we must not lack humility because the red and black machine will be able to crush us another time,” he added. “Tonight we took it, we did what we set out to do, we are happy. We are as lucid as it could have escaped us. The players can be proud of themselves because they checked the boxes they had targeted during the week, particularly defensively.”
