John Ashton has died aged 76
American actor John Ashton has died at the age of 76 in Fort Collins, Colorado. His manager confirmed this to Variety.
Born in Springfield on February 22, 1948, the actor’s career spanned five decades, in both television and film. “An Eye for an Eye” (1973), “So Evil, My Sister” (1974), “Cat Murkil and the Silks” (1976), “Breaking Away” (1979), “Borderline” (1980), “Honky Tonk Freeway (1981) and “Gone Baby Gone” (2007) are just a few of the films in which John Ashton has appeared.
However, he became internationally known as Detective Sergeant John Taggart in the first two “Beverly Hills Cop” films (1984 and 1987), in which he starred alongside Eddie Murphy and Judge Reinhold. Ashton was also seen again in his role as Taggart in the new film in the saga, “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F”, released in theaters in July of this year, written by Le Matin.
In the action comedy “Midnight Run” (1988), he played the brutal and bumbling bounty hunter Marvin Dorfler. John Ashton has appeared on television in numerous series, including “Columbo”, “Barnaby Jones”, “MASH”, “Starsky and Hutch” and “Dallas”. Ashton was married and had two children.
