INTERVIEW. Stade Toulousain – -Bègles: “Everyone saw us so beautiful…” plagues Ugo Mola after the defeat of

the essential
The “rouge et noir” lost at home to the Girondins this Sunday, September 29 in the evening (16-12, 4th day of Top 14), losing on home soil for the first time since February 2022.

Ugo Mola, this defeat comes after a long series of victories at home, were you surprised?

It’s not that surprising in the match, I think there was a team who played their game to the fullest and we were sorely lacking in realism and ability to score and when you score 12 points at home, you can’t claim to win matches too much.

There was a succession of small mistakes that prevented your actions from succeeding, what caused this?

We got off to a very good start to the match with 10 rather conclusive minutes and then we had a succession of errors which allowed Bordeaux to get back into the match, particularly on their first three points. There are three penalties on our part, a key not found, a direct return of entry, little things which certainly disturbed us a little but oh well. A match is also made up of mistakes and moments of strong and weak times. It turns out that the highlights we had were not transformed into points because we ended up, I think, from memory three times, four times in the goal or not far away. And against this kind of team, we can’t afford not to score and once again, I repeat, 12 points is not enough to win a home match.

You also lost a lot of ball on the ground…

Yes, particularly on our possessions, we were unable to adapt to the refereeing which was rather harsh until the last action but it is also a way of progress, it was our eighth week, we had nevertheless identified that we were not very successful in our game despite positive results. It turns out that this evening, the somewhat sterile side of our attacks cost us dearly and most certainly cost us the fate of the match and winning the match.

During your post-match speech, have you already re-mobilized your players for the match next week?

We’re on the fourth day, it’s going to happen… When we look up and see the menu that is ours… A lot of things are going to happen. It turns out that it’s Castres and that it’s a derby which is perhaps a little less exciting than a few years ago but the fact remains that it’s a match that we are going to prepare for, we starts a new block for us with four matches before our internationals leave us. So we will try to regenerate as best we can and prepare for a match that is coming up quickly since it will be Saturday in Castres.

ZOOM. Stade Toulousain – Bordeaux-Bègles: Romain Ntamack-Matthieu Jalibert, who won the high-flying opening half duel?

Apart from the result, it was really hard tonight, there was a pretty crazy intensity at the start of the season, is that what you felt at the edge of the pitch?

I would have liked it to be a little more striking but I wasn’t dazzled by the physical presence or at least the physical intensity. I think it remains an early season match, at least for us because I’m going to be careful not to talk about the team opposite. But we have to recognize that they were very effective, and again I think that there is a ball on a possession of ours, we can take one more try on a counter. We still paid dearly for going to 14 in the first half and we were never able to string together almost three positive actions in a row and when we did string them together we scored. So we missed this sequence which sometimes makes the difference, this ability to perhaps take the points at the foot also a little at the beginning, but when you don’t chain three periods of positive play, you stay in a tone and you certainly allow the referee to catch you on details and these little things make you feel like you will never really start our meeting. That’s how it is, we have work, everyone saw us so beautiful, unbeatable and prancing in the lead and we fell into line. It will please a lot of people and I won’t hide the fact that I don’t dislike it either.
