Luis Suarez misses meters in final minute as Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami is held by Charlotte FC

Luis Suarez wasted a brilliant chance to join Lionel Messi on the scoresheet in the final minute as Inter Miami drew against Charlotte FC on Saturday September 28. The Herons extended their unbeaten run in MLS to eight games, but failed to collect maximum points after a 1-1 draw.

Inter Miami boss Gerardo “Tata” Martino opted to start Messi and Suarez from the start against Charlotte FC. The pair had scored 31 league goals between them for the team, and the manager was once again looking to build on their quality.

Lionel Messi scored a goal, but the decisive moment of the match fell to Luis Suarez in the last minute of the match. Sporting a new blond look, the former Uruguay international directed his effort upwards after some brilliant approach play from his teammates.

Messi found Jordi Alba at the far post with a lovely pass, and the left-back headed towards goal, leaving Suarez with the simple task of heading home. With the goalkeeper covering, the 37-year-old was left disheartened and was only able to send his effort about two yards out.

Suarez has been an important player for Inter Miami in his first season for the club, scoring 17 goals in 24 MLS matches so far. He is also the team’s top scorer, with Messi two goals behind him on 15 in just 16 games this season.

Suarez missed two big chances on the night, while creating three chances for his teammates and seeing a shot blocked. He finished the match without a goal contribution despite recording 1.11 xG (expected goals) and 0.82 xA (expected assists).

Lionel Messi kicks off new superhero celebration at Inter Miami draw

Lionel Messi continued his return to action with another goal for Inter Miami as they were held to a 1-1 draw visiting Charlotte FC in MLS. The great Argentine celebrated his goal once again, which allowed his team to score a point at home.

During his first campaign with the Herons, Messi celebrated his home goals by imitating Marvel superheroes for his children, who only attended home games. The 37-year-old hadn’t done it this season, but brought it back for the game against Charlotte with his sons in attendance.

Lionel Messi fired a brilliant shot into the bottom corner from outside the box in the 67th minute of the tie. He then imitated Ironman in his celebration as he took his tally for the season to 15 goals. He has previously done impressions of Spiderman and Black Panther after scoring for the Herons.
