For the 45th time, the residents of the Saint-Michel district of Malestroit met this Saturday noon in the outbuildings of the Augustines clinic, – a major establishment in the city and the district – for the neighbors’ party. It is an unmissable event to which local residents are very attached and which allows them to meet up, exchange ideas and get news from each other before entering the winter period. This Saturday there were around sixty of them enjoying this sunny day, “the summer of Saint-Michel”, rather rare this year. Among the guests we noted the presence of the dean, Michel Gombaud, 92 years old. The oldest of the district, Marie Bocandé, who celebrated her 100th birthday last December, was unable to make the trip. The mayor, Bruno Gicquello, came to greet the gathered neighbors.

This day is the work of a collective within which the roles are well distributed. The men take charge of preparing the room, while a group of 6 wives coordinated by Marie-Thérèse manages the meal. Because if the main course is provided by a caterer, they are the ones who prepare the starter. And this Saturday lunchtime it was mixed vegetables with mayonnaise and tabbouleh.

The afternoon continued in a very relaxed manner between discussions, bowling and shuffleboard before everyone gathered for the evening grilled meal – prepared by the men.
