despite better offensive intentions, Standard loses against Westerlo (1-2)

Standard records its first defeat of the season at home. The Rouches showed a more offensive face than usual. This is also why they conceded the opener after just 5 minutes. On a very quick reconversion, Bos overtook Sutalo before serving Frigan for the 0-1.

The Liégeois then tried to react, notably affecting the amount. But we had to wait until the second half to see Standard return to the score. Following a foul on Camara, the abiter designated the penalty spot. Zeqiri was responsible for transforming it to equalize.

But in the action which followed, less concentrated Rouches saw the Campinois take the direct advantage. Vuskovic wandered through the Standard defense before serving Frigan who deceived Epolo at the near post. With this defeat, the Liégeois remain stuck at the gates of the top 6 with 12 units.

Highlights of the meeting:

While the Rouches took the field with a block and high pressure, as is rarely the case, they were trapped after only 5 minutes of play. On an ultra-fast counter, Bos overtook Sutalo before serving Frigan to the small rectangle. The center forward opened the scoring.

The Liégeois reacted and just before the quarter of an hour of play, a corner from Bultat found Eckert Ayensa in the first zone. The striker’s recovery hit the post. The ball returned to the feet of Ngoy who, in turn, found the post.

The Campinois came very close to doubling the stake. Sayyadmanesh found the back of the Standard defense in the 28th minute. Epolo came out well and saved his team with the help of the post.

After 56 minutes of play, Standard won a penalty for a foul on Camara. Zeqiri converted the penalty to equalize. Just a few seconds later, Vuskovic broke through the Standard team before finding Frigan. The striker hit the near post and scored twice to allow Westerlo to get back in front.
