Montpellier was a few seconds away from snatching a point from Monaco but, for its century, ASM won at the end of stoppage time thanks to a goal from captain Denis Zakaria (2-1).
For its centenary, theAS Monaco brought together all the cream of the club, the glorious elders who carried the colors of the Rock high. But in the middle of the fun, there was still a match to be played at Louis-II against Montpellier.
Montpellier plays the spoilsport
The first big opportunity was for La Diagonale. In numerical superiority, Folarin Balogun had the choice between Breel Embolo in the axis or Elisse Ben Seghir which arrived launched. He chose the Swiss who completely missed his recovery when he just had to find the target (7th). On the other hand, it took a double feat of Dimitry Bertaudconfirmed in the cages by Michel the Zakarianto prevent Embolo then Ben Seghir from scoring, with a foot parade followed by a superb dive (14th).
La Paillade knew how to thank his goalkeeper. Upon recovery, Arnaud Nordin transmitted firstly to Chorus Adams including the return to the game for Rabby Nzingoula allowed the environment to present itself alone in the face of Philipp Köhn and choosing a dry strike at the near post to open the scoring (16th).
From then on, the highlight was in Hérault. Tanguy Coulibaly was close to the goal of the break but Köhn pushed back… on Khalil Fayad who was prevented by Mohammed Salisu on the line (18th). With confidence, Nzingoula fired a good shot at the edge of the area but Köhn intervened (28th).
But despite these initiatives, Montpellier suffered the return of the Monegasques. With his back to the game, Embolo received the ball before offering it as a gift to Balogun who did not miss the chance to equalize (33rd).
Just before half-time, Bertaud scared himself by coming out in front of the attackers and caught the ball on the border with his penalty area: after a few moments of doubt, he was in a legal position (43rd) .
Camara blows out the candles
Boosted by his victory last week against Auxerrethe MHSC held on to this point. On a second ball, Adams attempted an instinctive strike, which went off target (55th). We will have to wait half an hour to see another opportunity for the Héraultais.
Because Monaco has accelerated. Without a slip, Maghnes Akliouche could have scored after a move with Caio Henrique and Balogun (63rd). The American international then saw a point-blank mine bounce off Bertaud’s right post (65th). Then it was Wahbi Khazri, on his line, who said no to Salisu who had taken off from a corner (75th). Finally, Alexander Golovine looked for a penalty after very weak contact with Enzo Tchato. Without success (82nd).
What if Montpellier pulled off the big blow of the evening? On a free kick from 20 meters, Teji Savanier wrapped a remote-controlled free kick, out of Köhn’s reach… but the square saved the Rocher players (85th). They then went on the attack again to force the decision. Came into play, Lamine Camara signed a very high level sequence with Embolo but Bertaud quickly dove to divert the danger with a firm hand (87th). The Senegalese then missed the target with a pivotal shot (90th).
The Pailladins were running out of oxygen. Author of a colossal match, Coulibaly sacrificed himself to avoid a counter and received a second yellow (90th + 2). There was only a minute left in stoppage time when Cassim Ouattara saw his attempt crushed end up in the gloves of Bertaud (90th+7).
Finished ? Not quite. Found at the entrance to the surface, Camara found enough space to place a shot from the right which hit Bertaud’s post before finishing in the back of the net, to the great dismay of the Héraultais and to the greatest joy of a club which was able to properly celebrate its 100 years old.
