The Jungle Camp is the biggest German reality show.
-
The legendary format is known for enforcing tough rules.
-
Bedtimes, water consumption and meals are strictly regulated – anyone who violates them will be punished.
In the jungle camp, the celebrities say goodbye to their usual luxury life. All participants such as Lilly Becker (48), Maurice Dziwak (26) and Alessia Herren (23) are only allowed to take two luxury items per person in order to have a small part of their old self with them in the Australian bush. Soap, mosquito repellent, toilet paper, towels, toothpaste and toothbrush are standard in the camp.
There are strict guidelines not only when it comes to belongings, but also how the twelve celebrities live together in the Australian jungle is strictly regulated, as “Today” reports.
Boundary rule
The candidates are only allowed to stay within a specified area, which is marked on a map. The celebrities are only allowed to leave the camp if there is an express request regarding jungle tests or occasional treasure hunts.
The stars are nominated by the audience for the jungle tests in the first week, and in the second half the participants decide among themselves who will take part in the test.
The Night Watch
Things get particularly strict in the evening: When it gets dark, two celebrities always have to line up for the night watch. They are not allowed to leave the camp center during their shift. Only with direct instruction are participants allowed to go alone to the jungle telephone, where the interviews will be conducted. Anyone who violates this rule must expect consequences such as the loss of luxury items.
You only sleep at night if you don’t have to start a shift – that’s the rule in the jungle camp. Anyone who sleeps during the day risks a harsh punishment.
Groceries
The stars only receive the most necessary food in the jungle camp. A daily ration of rice and beans forms the basis of the diet. Food must be consumed immediately and leftovers must not be stored in order not to attract wild animals. What nature could provide in the way of edible plants or mushrooms is taboo due to self-protection and nature conservation. Killing animals is also prohibited, as the “Bild” newspaper reports.
-In the jungle trials, the campers fight for additional food. The more stars they collect, the more food there is for all participants. Of course, the stars can also gorge themselves during the food tests – but the choice is usually animal innards or worms.
Hygiene and water
The jungle camp is also extremely strict when it comes to hygiene requirements. The water from the tap must be boiled before it can be used for drinking or brushing your teeth. Clothes and dishes may also only be washed at designated points in the river.
After successfully using the toilet, the celebrities also have to pour sawdust into the toilet containers, in this way water consumption is kept as low as possible.
Smoke
Smoking is allowed, but under certain conditions. Each smoker receives a delivery of a maximum of five cigarettes per day – these are only intended for personal use and may not be passed on. The ashes and remains must be disposed of in the campfire so as not to risk a forest fire. Nicotine patches, snus, e-cigarettes and the like are not permitted.
Communication
Within the camp, participants are only allowed to communicate in German. The microphones must also be worn around the clock – except when sleeping or showering.
For safety reasons, microphones must also be attached when going to the toilet at night. Discussions about jungle tests or tactical agreements are not allowed – anyone who gets caught will get in trouble.
