Philippe Clement reacted disappointed after Rangers’ painful defeat at Old Trafford. Despite a late equalizer from Cyriel Dessers, the team lost 2-1 in injury time due to a goal from Bruno Fernandes.
“I’m gutted that we lost,” Clement said after the match, as quoted by Rangers Review. However, he also emphasized the positive side of his players’ performance. “The team wanted to do something special, and I’m very proud of how we performed today. There are many, many positives.”
The match seemed to take a dramatic turn when Jack Butland unluckily scored an own goal. However, Rangers fought their way back into the match, and Dessers’ fine finish gave the team hope of a point. Unfortunately, it was Fernandes who ultimately defeated the Scottish team in the final minutes. The loss means Rangers now sit 13th in the Europa League, three points away from a top eight spot, with one game left to play.
Clement and his men are now focusing on their next challenges. A crucial match against Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League awaits next week. “It’s important to recover,” Clement said. “We want to build on the positive and continue our winning streak in the league first.”
