Marco Odermatt wins the Super-G in Kitzbühel and triumphs on the Streif for the first time. Stefan Rogentin also gets on the podium.
The podium
- 1. Marco Odermatt (SUI) 1:13.25 minutes
- 2. Raphael Haaser (AUT) +0.11 seconds
- 3. Stefan Rogentin (SUI) +0.30s
In the twelfth attempt, Marco Odermatt finally worked out in Kitzbühel: the man from Nidwalden triumphed on the legendary Streif. In the first Super-G on this route since 2021 there was no match against the 27-year-old. Odermatt didn’t drive flawlessly and lost some time, especially in the last section of the route. But overall he had found the right mix of risk and caution and thus kept his competitors at bay.
The closest person to the Dominator came, of all people, from the badly-troubled Austrian speed team. Raphael Haaser drove fearlessly and made Odermatt sweat on the leader’s throne. In the end, the Austrian was 11 hundredths behind the Swiss.
Behind him, Stefan Rogentin achieved his second podium finish of the season, having already finished 3rd in the Super-G in Wengen a week ago. At that time he had fallen during training and then came back strongly, and he didn’t let that unsettle him in Kitzbühel either.
The other Swiss
- 4. Franjo von Allmen +0.45
- 9. Justin Murisier +0,72
- Loïc Meillard +0.96
- Alexis Monney +1,53
- Arnaud Boisset +1.95
- DNF: Lars Rösti
Franjo von Allmen, the Wengen winner, narrowly missed out on the podium. He was 15 hundredths behind his teammate Rogentin. After a wild ride, Von Allmen lost a lot of time in the final section due to a lack of speed.
With Justin Murisier, another Swiss made it into the top 10, Loïc Meillard narrowly missed out. Alexis Monney paid some lessons with start number 5 and as the first Swiss. Arnaud Boisset finished behind his teammate, Lars Rösti missed a goal and was eliminated.
-The falls
After Lukas Feurstein with start number 1 had already been eliminated, several athletes were also subsequently affected. While Dominik Paris and Otmar Striedinger got off lightly, things looked much less good for Alexis Pinturault. The Frenchman had to be transported away by helicopter. This brings back unpleasant memories: a year ago he tore a cruciate ligament on the Lauberhorn, and it wasn’t until December that he made his comeback.
A short time later, the rescue helicopter was back in action. Pinturault’s teammate Florian Loriot fell in the same place and also hit the safety net hard. Vincent Kriechmayr didn’t even start because he didn’t feel fit enough to start after straining his medial ligament in Wengen.
This is how it continues
The highlight in Kitzbühel is the descent on Saturday. The Streif starts at 11:30 a.m. The weekend ends on Sunday with a slalom. As always, all races are live on SRF.
