Raffaele (Jonathan Hutter) and Billie (Hanna Plaß) prepare reports about the sights in Puglia for Ariane’s travel blog and fall in love with each other.
Today, Sunday, January 19, 2025, things will be romantic on ZDF! “A Summer in Italy” takes viewers to Puglia and promises great emotional cinema. Directed by Stefanie Sycholt, Billie and Hella, played by Hanna Plaß and Corinna Kirchhoff, experience an emotional roller coaster ride between love, friendship and life decisions.
Two women, two worlds
Billie, who is always there for others, and Hella, who wants to enjoy life, couldn’t be more different. While Billie supports her cousin Ariane (Sarah Mahita Giese), Hella is looking for her childhood sweetheart Angelo. But the reunion goes differently than expected! Hella wants to start a new chapter in Italy, while Billie loses herself in her willingness to help.
Romance and bitter truths
Billie meets the charming photographer Raffaele (Jonathan Hutter), who seems lost after a breakup. Her compassionate nature gets him back on his feet and creates a noticeable closeness between them. But Billie has doubts: is she ready for a new love? Meanwhile, Hella has to cope with a severe blow of fate: Angelo recently died. Even more shocking is the realization that it was not he, but his sister Sophia (Teresa Harder) who wrote the romantic letters that touched her so much.
Feelings that get under your skin
Billie is persuaded by Hella to register on a dating app. There she meets Mateo (Valmir Krasniqi), who falls head over heels in love with her. But Billie doesn’t feel comfortable in this world of quick dating and deletes her profile again. However, Mateo doesn’t give up and offers her swimming lessons to help her prepare for a swimming trip. A real challenge for Billie, who is terrified of deep water.
New beginning or past?
Hella is deep in her thoughts: Does it matter who wrote the letters? Or is it just the feeling they conveyed that counts? Her search for answers takes her on an emotional journey that opens up old wounds and opens up new perspectives. Billie, on the other hand, slowly begins to open up to Raffaele, but the fear of being disappointed again holds her back.
