The forecast prompted organizers of President-elect Donald J. Trump’s inauguration on Monday to move the event indoors. Washington will be under a winter weather advisory beginning on Sunday, the Weather Service said, and a part of Northern Virginia will be under a winter storm warning.
States along the southern coast from eastern Texas, up through North Carolina, are also expecting snow and freezing rain starting on Monday and going into Tuesday.
Portions of Louisiana will see two to four inches of snow, eastern Texas could get as much as three inches of snow, and Northern Alabama is expecting temperatures to hit lows of 8 to 12 degrees, the National Weather Service said.
-While the Northeast is accustomed to snow, officials in the South warned their constituents about the snow and cold and took measures to improve their preparedness.
Gov. Jeff Landry of Louisiana declared a state of emergency from Monday until Thursday to help the area prepare for the rare winter weather.
