There are now even folding bicycles, BMXs and racing bicycles that are equipped with an electric motor. “Yes, electric cycling is also making a breakthrough in the sporting segment,” says Desmet. “This is partly due to the more compact technology, which ensures that batteries and motors can be incorporated into the bicycle much more discreetly, so that it is not so noticeable to other cycling tourists that someone is riding with assistance.”
Electronics will also play a greater role in the sector in other areas, with bicycles equipped with, for example, an anemometer, heart rate monitor and increasingly tracking. Such a tracking system makes it possible to find out where your bicycle is, for example if it has been stolen, which can certainly be appropriate for more expensive electric bicycles.
