Biathlon – World Cup. The globe of the individual already assured for Lou Jeanmonnot? The answer in numbers

With two individual victories in as many World Cup races, Lou Jeanmonnot is close to the globe of the specialty. But four biathletes can still prevent him from winning it, notably the German Franziska Preuss.

Two races contested individually and two victories. With only three races on the World Cup program in this specialty, Lou Jeanmonnot has a good chance of winning the small globe. But nothing has been done yet and everything will be decided in almost two months on the Pokljuka side.

There will be five of them competing for the title in the Slovenian resort. Jeanmonnot, wearer of the red bib, has 180 points after her double at Kontiolahti (Finland) and to Ruhpolding (Germany). She has a lead of 55 units over the German Franziska Preuss (125), 71 over the Swede Ella Halvarsson (109), 74 over the Swede Elvira Öberg (106) and 84 over her compatriot Océane Michelon (96).

Preuss the only real competitor

It would therefore take quite an alignment of the planets to see the last three cities overthrow the Jura. To win the small globe, Halvarsson must finish first or second and hope that Jeanmonnot finishes higher than 22e up or out of 40.

Öberg must win or take second place and the Jurassienne finishes beyond 25e rank or 40e.

For Michelon it's even simpler: victory is imperative and Jeanmonnot will have to finish beyond 38e place.

Very unlikely scenarios looking at the performances at the start of the season but she is not immune to missing out on her race like Johannes Boe in Bavaria.

On the other hand, Preuss is a real danger for the Olympic Mont d'Or biathlete. Even if Jeanmonnot's lead is substantial, it can quickly seem small in the event of a good performance from the German. A victory for Preuss and the Jurassienne will be forced to finish at least eighth.

In the event of second place for the Bavarian, Jeanmonnot will have to take at least 21e place.

If Preuss finishes third, Jeanmonnot will be forced to finish 31ste or better. And in the event of fourth place for the German, the Jurassian will have to collect at least the point of 40e place.
