Carlos Alcaraz He flies into the third round of the Australian Open 2025. The Spanish tennis player confirmed his great form by defeating the Japanese in just 81 minutes. Yoshihito Nishioka (6-0, 6-1, 6-4).
“The less time you spend on the court in a Grand Slam, especially at the beginning of the tournament, the better, especially physically,” said Alcaraz, who acknowledged having improved the sensations with the serve. “I’m feeling very good.”
Alcaraz’s next rival in Australia will be the Portuguese Nuno Borgesnumber 33 in the world, who beat the Australian Jordan Thompson in just three sets (6-3, 6-2, 6-4).
Alcaraz and Borges have only faced each other once to date. It was in the second round of the Conde de Godó 2023, a match that the Murcian won comfortably (6-3, 6-1) on the way to his second title at the ATP 500 in Barcelona.
Last season, Borges reached the round of 16 at the Australian Open, where he surprised Grigor Dimitrov before falling in four sets to Daniil Medvedev.
-Also in the last edition, Alcaraz reached what until now is his ceiling in Australia, the quarterfinals. This year he not only aspires to improve it, but to win the only Grand Slam title missing from his record.
To achieve this, Alcaraz will have to overcome a very demanding situation. In a hypothetical quarterfinal it could be seen with Novak Djokovic; in the semi-finals, with Alexander Zverevhis executioner last year; and in the final, with Jannik Sinnercurrent champion and number one in the world.
